German Foreign Office to switch from Linux to Windows desktop systems
The German Government has confirmed that the German Foreign Office will no longer
use desktop Linux systems. This happened in response to a question "on the use of open source
software in the Foreign Office and other Government departments" submitted to the German
parliament by SPD (Social Democrats).
The Foreign Office migrated to Linux serves in 2001. In 2005 it has introduced open source
software such as Firefox, Thunderbird and Open Office on its desktop systems.
