"Open Source Usage and Impact in Public Administrations: towards a more efficient Europe"

City of Badajoz, 1st and 2nd December 2010.

This event is promoted by the European project OSEPA (Open Source Software Usage by European Public Administrations) and organized by FUNDECYT (Extremadura Foundation for the development of science and technology).

Free software is an emerging trend in European administrations. In fact, its use has been consolidating relentlessly in recent years in the administrations of member countries of the EU due to the strategic advantages it offers. The interest lies in its flexibility, technological autonomy and optimization of public resources. It means greater sustainability, ultimately. Nowadays, Extremadura region is a synonymous of good practice in the use of Free Software among public administration due the constant work approaching the Digital Agenda priorities.

In this vein, the OSEPA Project wants to open an international debate counting on one hand, the concerns of those responsible for local government, and other personal experiences with international experts in the field. This will be primarily aimed at the Conference.

The conference will be attended by delegations of the European public institutions (municipalities, federations of municipalities, universities, etc..) by at least 12 European countries, plus regional and national institutions from organizations promoting free software and public institutions will also participate.
