Survey Quantitative report

The OSEPA project has delivered a survey that assesses the level of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) uptake and identifies the factors affecting its usage among European public administrations. The survey was conducted through local online questionnaire versions in 20 countries over a period of 10 weeks (24/10/2011 31/12/2011) and resulted into a total of 1088 valid responses from 19 countries. The majority of responses (64%) came from participants with a technical background and role in their organisation while about 1 out of 3 respondents (36%) had a non-technical/administrative profile. Survey results are summed in the following key findings:

  • FOSS awareness and experience
  • FOSS attitudes and policies
  • FOSS benefits and barriers
  • FOSS use and integration

The survey will be presented at the OSEPA conference in Jihlava, Czech Republic and at www.osepa.eu during project deliverables.
