Professor Mike Holcombe from the OSEPA partner, University of Sheffield, in the UK is chairing a New Creative and Digital Industries (CDI) sector group that was created by the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership to drive growth in key industries in the Sheffield region.

A key part of this programme will be collaboration between the public sector, the universities and local businesses to focus on production of services for the public sector exploring the automation and transformation of public services to make significant savings.

One of the major plans for this group is the establishment of a next generation wholesale data centre infrastructure that will capitalise on Cloud Computing and Software as a Service (SaaS). The strategy is founded on the shift to Cloud Computing model driven by the UK Government IT strategy and will feature the use of Open Source Software.
